LoboSEEDS to receive UNM-Turner Foundation Research Grant

The Ecological Society of America established the SEEDS Program to, "diversify and advance the ecology profession through opportunities that stimulate and nurture the interest of underrepresented students to not only participate in ecology, but to lead. Focused mainly at the undergraduate level, with extension services for communities, high schools, graduate students, and international collaborations, the SEEDS program promotes an ecology profession with wide representation to ensure environmental understanding and a sustainable future for all." The UNM SEEDS Chapter, LoboSEEDS, has received a $10,000 grant from the Turner Foundation through the University of New Mexico for the project, "Engage and Inspire NM youth through Ecological Research Surrounding Bison Grazed Grassland Communities at the NM Turner Ranches." This project will engage high school students in ecological research while providing valuable research data and management information on how desert grasslands respond to bison grazing in New Mexico. The project is being managed by the UNM SEEDS chapter, with particiption by undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from UNM, and high school students from local school systems associated with BEMP (Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program), the Sevilleta schoolyard LTER Program. Congratulations to LoboSEEDS!
